STEAMPUNK

"Steampunk is a sub-genre of speculative fiction, usually set in an anachronistic Victorian or quasi-Victorian alternate history setting. It could be described by the slogan "What the past would look like if the future had happened sooner." It includes fiction with science fiction, fantasy or horror themes.

Medieval Steampunk: Speculative fiction set during the Middle Ages.

Victorian Steampunk: A modern Science Fiction work (post-1930s) that is set in the early parts of the industrial revolution.

Western Steampunk: Science fiction set in the American Old West.

Industrial/Modern Steampunk: Science fiction taking place in the late industrial age, early modern age; i.e. World War 1, World War "

Before we dive into the history  of what we know as Steampunk, the definition(above) would be the first thing that we must define right? And therein lies the first obstacle for anyone trying to get a grip on the concept as there are many differing opinions about what constitutes Steampunk. Because. This is difficult. Very difficult. Takes alot of energy and effort to research yo.

Many people simply see Steampunk as a genre of speculative fiction, covering a small  variety form of novelsfilmscomics and other popular media. Other people see Steampunk as an entire sub-culture, such as – fashion, music, and culture(cosplay in particular). Simply said, “Steampunk is what happens when Goths discover the color brown”. Plus, it might also be the collision of Victorian-era high fashion with rivets and brass and clockwork, an often-extraordinary arts and crafts scene with a firm emphasis on DIY, is what we sometimes see or encounter in our modern lives.

Finally, and at the extreme end of the spectrum, there are some who consider Steampunk a kind of counter-cultural “movement” – a mindset and philosophy that moves beyond the simple trappings of fashion and scene, and becomes a way of life. These are folks who you might hear throwing around odd sub-sub-genre handles like “Dieselpunk” or “Biopunk” or “Gaslight”.

These people take their Steampunk seriously.

oh.

Before I forget, I would like to share a little something extra for this topic. During in between school and home, I have designed a steampunk-themed character AHAHHA. Her name is Mysteria and she is a witch. A steampunk witch. She loves spiders.

I actually have been developing character designs since I was 14? Till now I have almost 35 characters ranging from different themes and concepts. This one here is actually a character I have created a while back, but I decided to put her in a different era, and redesigned her.
The one on the left was my final draft before I scanned and (Computer Generate) CG-ed the artwork! Suitable modifications have been made in the process to produce the final design. This one here of course was my first design back in June, 2010.
Har har de har har my drawings still suck back then.
YEP. This is the redesigned version.
These are my main references and inspirations :3

Hope you enjoyed!
